Inspired by Aesop’s fable, ‘The Lion and the Mouse’, this design sees artist Roanna Wells use mark making to create a glistening design of vivid white and shiny gold. This pattern shows the lion stepping free of the net that once trapped him… thanks to his little mouse friend, who can now be found hitching a ride on his paw.
This tale of unexpected kinship reminds us that no one is too big to ask for help, or too small to make a difference.

Roanna Wells
Roanna is a Sheffield-based artist whose artistic practice is an exploration into the subtle effects of repetition through detail mark-making processes.
She works with watercolour, embroidery, gliding and arrangements of natural objects – often with an underlying meaning or story as inspiration running through the work.
