Going to Work

Location

Entrance to Rotherham Leisure Complex

A celebration of the enduring artistic industry in South Yorkshire, Going to Work is inspired by Lowry’s iconic painting of the same name.

This lioness is a playful tribute to the creative energy of our region, as characters stroll, dance, bike, frolic and skate their way across a pastel world.

Emily Appleton

Emily is a multi-disciplinary designer and artist from the North West. Her work explores themes of nostalgia, home and place through expressive mark making and vibrant colour.

Motifs such as houses and topographic landscapes feature heavily throughout Emily’s work, drawing on surrealist and expressionist influences to interrogate the idea of what, where and when is home, and to position ‘home’ as a dreamlike state as opposed to a physical place.

A photograph of a person sat on a tree stump. They wear double denim and their hair flows in the wind. The photo has a retro feel.
