Queen of the Canal

Location

Outside the English Institute of Sport

Inspired by the British folk art of the canal network, this lioness roams proudly through the city and encourages all who find her to enjoy the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal.

Covered from paw to peepers in the historic Roses & Castles art style – an art form that has been brightening our waterways for over 150 years – she’s a tribute to the rich heritage and importance of our inland waterways.

Artist Roseanna Hanson has lovingly recreated this traditional art style for her design, with iconic colours, patterns and florals that are synonymous with narrowboat life!

Roseanna ‘Dozy’ Hanson

Roseanna “Dozy” Hanson is a neo‑traditional tattoo artist working from her private studio Dozy Tattoo in Sheffield city centre. She specialises in fully custom tattoo designs, tailored to all skin tones and body types, and offers compassionate self-harm scar cover‑up tattoos at reduced rates for those who need them.

Beyond tattooing, Dozy also hand‑paints upcycled items inspired by the traditional Roses and Castles style which originated on the UK canal network, including enamel‑painted plant pots, jugs, and salt & pepper shakers, as well as art prints, stickers, and a tattoo‑inspired colouring book, all available through her UK‑based online shop.

A person with bright pink hair and glasses is focussed on tattooing. They look down at their subject.
