Warp Films meets Pride of Yorkshire
Lights, camera, roar! Warp’s latest collaboration goes off the screen and into the wild.
Warp Films welcomes in its 25th anniversary with a special, lion-themed collaboration. Working with artist Ryan Mosely to create a bespoke design for a Pride of Yorkshire sculpture.
Called As Seen on Screen, this design is packed with references inspired by productions old and new, and celebrates the incredible catalogue of work and awards Warp has amassed along the way. The only thing missing? Space for the four new TV BAFTAs recently won by Adolescence.
For over 25 years, Warp has created some of the most iconic and uncompromising British film and television. From This Is England, Dead Man’s Shoes and Four Lions to Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and, most recently, Adolescence, Warp’s productions have helped put Northern storytelling on the map.
Created by artist Ryan Mosley, in collaboration with Warp founders Mark Herbert and Niall Shamma, the sculpture As Seen On Screen is a vibrant love letter to Warp’s past and present.
On creating this design, Ryan said: “This is the second sculpture I’ve created for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity. The first was a rainbow-themed bear inspired by the rainbows people displayed during lockdown after Covid. My four kids have all needed Sheffield Children’s Hospital at different times, whether that’s when they’ve been poorly or needed to stay overnight, so this sculpture was my way of saying thank you to the hospital and the charity.
“With this lion, I wanted to create something much more in keeping with my own painting style. But at the same time, I never normally paint recognisable things, so this pushed me completely out of my comfort zone. “I’ve never done anything like this before. At the ripe old age of 44, I’m still learning, which is great.”
When the trail goes live, film fanatics will be able to find As Seen on Screen on Paternoster Row, near to the Showroom Cinema and Workstation – which was the former home of Warp Films!
As Seen on Screen will join 149 other large lion and lioness sculptures across the streets, parks and public spaces of South Yorkshire this summer. Pride of Yorkshire will bring creativity, community and care to the region, and support the redevelopment of the Emergency Department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
