Getting Started

Creating an Account

To start collecting lions and seeing South Yorkshire, you’ll need to create a Pride of Yorkshire account. Please follow the below guide to start the process:

1. Visit prideofyorkshire.org on a mobile device or browser, and click ‘Log In’ or ‘Register’ in the top left-hand corner.
2. Complete the form with your name, username for the trail and email – and read through the Terms & Conditions.
3. Your account is now live! Visit trail.prideofyorkshire.org to load up the map and start collecting. You may need to re-log in.
4. Next time you visit the Pride of Yorkshire site on a mobile device, you can click ‘take me to the trail’ to be redirected to the interactive site, alternatively, you can add the Pride of Yorkshire trail site to your Home Screen for easy access – instructions of how to do so are below.

Add the Pride of Yorkshire trail site to your Home Screen

Players may wish to add the Pride of Yorkshire trail site to their phone’s home screen for easy access. This is not a requirement, but can make your lion collecting easier. To do this, follow the instructions below:
For iPhone:
1. Open trail.prideofyorkshire.org in Safari.
2. Select the icon in the bar which shows an arrow coming upwards out of a box.
3. Scroll down to ‘Add to Home Screen’ and select this option.
4.Follow the instructions in the dialog box – name the trail ‘Pride of Yorkshire’ and select Add.
5. This will then appear in a free space on your mobile device.

For Android:
1. Open trail.prideofyorkshire.org in your Browser.
2. Tap the ‘Menu’ icon (3 dots in the upper right-hand corner) and then ‘Add to Homescreen’
3. Follow the instructions in the dialog box – name the trail ‘Pride of Yorkshire’ and select Add.
4. This will then appear in a free space on your mobile device.

How It Works

Using the Interactive Trail Site

The Pride of Yorkshire Interactive Trail Site will give you real-time location information for the sculpture trail. You’ll be able to see which lions are close by, where they are, and let you ‘collect’ them to earn rewards and turn grey images into full-colour beauties! Here’s how it works:

1. When you load into the Pride of Yorkshire Interactive Trail Site, you should see a blinking blue dot at your current location. If you do not see a blinking blue dot at your current location, your location services/permissions may not be enabled. You can find out how to do this by clicking links for iPhone | Android.

2. If you do see a blinking blue dot at your location, you’re ready to go! Here’s how to get started:
– Use the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ symbols to zoom out to see where your nearest lion is, or click the distance marker in the top left-hand corner to see your closest.
– Press ‘Lions Nearby’ to see all Pride of Yorkshire lions in order of how close they are to your current location. You’ll be able to see a greyed-out image of the sculpture, its name, the artist, the sponsor and how far away it is.

3. To collect a sculpture, all you have to do is walk towards it. The distance marker on the selected sculpture will tell you how close you are to it, and at 10m you should have the option to ‘Collect Me!’. If this option doesn’t appear, you can enter the code for the sculpture by clicking the Paw Print marker in the top right-hand corner, and entering the code you see on the plinth [note: these are case sensitive].

4. Once you’ve collected a sculpture, the image will turn from grey to colour and you’ll be able to find out more information about the sculpture and the sponsor by pressing ‘Get to know this lion’, you can donate to Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and the transformation of the Emergency Department by pressing ‘Donate to the charity’, and you can view your reward by pressing ‘View your Reward’.

5. To keep track of which you’ve collected, press ‘Rawr Data’ in the blue bar to see how many lions of 300 you’ve found, and to be able to revisit any you’ve already collected.

6. Your Rewards will be stored in your rewards wallet as you collect sculptures. Some sculptures on the trail will surprise you with a discounted or free item at a location close by, so make sure you’re pressing ‘Rewards’ in the blue bar to check what you’ve got!

7. To use your rewards, simply click the Reward you’d like to redeem and follow the instructions. All rewards will present you with a code to present to a retailer, venue or input online… but be quick! Each reward will only last 48 hours before it expires.

FAQs

Q. I’m stood in front of a lion and it isn’t collecting!
A. Sometimes being around tall buildings interferes with the location tracking on your device, so we’ve added a code to each plinth to enable you to collect any lion. Simply make note of the code, then type that into the box summoned when you click the red box with the yellow paw print found in the top right corner of the interactive trail site. Codes are case sensitive.

Q. Why are some lions marked as ‘gone for maintenance’ and not available to collect or search for?
A. We want to keep Pride of Yorkshire looking its best all summer long, but sometimes if one has become damaged we may deem it necessary to remove it from the trail while it gets some TLC. We will post on social media when the sculpture has been returned.

Q. What does ‘Part of X pride’ mean?
A. Pride of Yorkshire features some Side Quests within the Interactive Trail Site! These are: Hometown Heroes, Animal Instincts, The Beautiful Game, Theo’s Favourites, Be Proud and Pride in Yorkshire. You can check how many of each series you’ve so far found by clicking the purple bar at the top of the Interactive Trail site, and pressing ‘Prides’. Each consists of a set number of themed sculptures (all barring Hometown Heroes feature seven sculptures, Hometown Heroes is nine sculptures) and more information about Pride Quests can be found on the News page.

Q. I had a Bears of Sheffield account, will it roll over to Pride of Yorkshire?
A. Nope! Pride of Yorkshire is on a different system, so you’ll need an entirely new account.

Q. Is there a paper map available?
A. Absolutely! Physical paper maps for Pride of Yorkshire are available to collect at venues across South Yorkshire – including Sheffield (Atkinsons, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity Hub in Outpatients, Meadowhall, Crystal Peaks and the Cathedral), Barnsley (Elsecar Heritage Centre and Experience Barnsley Museum), Rotherham (Grimm & Co, The Makers Emporium and Clifton Park Museum) and Doncaster (Tourist Information Centre). Maps are a suggested donation of £1.

Q. How much does the app cost?
A. The Pride of Yorkshire interactive trail site is completely free to use – all you have to do is create an account and have access to a mobile device and internet connection. If you would like to, you are welcome to donate to Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity’s Pride of Yorkshire appeal – which is set to transform the emergency department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Q. Do I have to be over 18 to play?
A. We welcome lion lovers of all ages, but anyone under 13 years old must gain parental consent. More information can be found in our Terms and Conditions.

Q. Do I have to find all 300 sculptures?
A. No! While we encourage you to get out and find all 300 Pride of Yorkshire sculptures this summer, it absolutely isn’t mandatory for you to get the most out of the trail. Whether you find three, or 300, we hope you enjoy seeing these beautiful works of art.

Q. Are you tracking my location if I enable location services?
A. No, we don’t store users’ real-time location data. The site uses your device’s GPS location locally to show your position on the map, and determine when you are close enough to collect a sculpture. This location information is provided by your device and used by Google Maps to display the map, but we do not record, store or monitor a user’s movement or location history.

Q. The trail site isn’t recognising my location – what can I do?
A. We recommend closing the app when you aren’t using it so any changes, including new rewards or information, or when you change location, can be applied. Instructions for how to close an app can be found by clicking these links: iPhone | Android. Then every time you reload, all available content will be at your fingertips!

Q. I’ve been out collecting sculptures, but now my collection total is showing as less than I had – what happened?
A. The Pride of Yorkshire Interactive Site syncs every two minutes to ensure your lion collecting is as up to date as possible. To give the server time to sync, please don’t: clear your browser or site data, delete cookies or other website data, close the web page if you’re using a private/incognito browser, change or reset your device for at least an hour after collecting a sculpture. If you have done none of the above but your tally has dropped, please email us and we’ll try to help further!

Patch Notes and Fixes

Version 1.2 | 16.06.26

Map Zooming: The map now has a maximum zoom-out which should prevent an error which was automatically zooming users out to a global map view. This should make viewing the map from a distance much easier and less glitchy.

Direction Arrow: The blue location dot now shows a director arrow, which will give users a better indication of which direction they’re travelling. This relies on GPS movement, so if users stop walking this arrow may disappear. This is in testing and we will continue to review.

GPS Accuracy Indicator: GPS accuracy can be impacted by tall buildings, being indoors and individual phone settings, so we’ve introduced a GPS accuracy indicator which will tell you how well a user’s GPS is working at any time and automatically adjust the radius that users will able to collect a sculpture. A user’s blue location marker is now accompanied by an outer ring, which will change colour depending on a user’s status:

• White means a user has strong GPS and will be able to collect sculptures at a 10m radius.
• Yellow means a user has fair GPS and will be able to collect sculptures at a 15m radius.
• Red means a user has poor GPS and will be able to collect sculptures at a 25m radius.

Tracking Compass: The Purple Bar at the top now shows a compass with N,S,E,W markers to show users which direction their nearest sculpture is – making it even easier to head out and collect sculptures!

Disappearing Lions: The app could occasionally show the local collected total and drop down if the server sync was behind. This has not been fixed, and the app should retain the higher local count and merge with the server. Please note: if this happened to you before 10.06.26 then, unfortunately, we are unable to restore your progress.

Log-In Looping: Some users reported getting stuck in a log-in loop when trying to enter a code. We’ve improved the session refresh handling, so if a log-in token has expired the app will refresh it in the background rather than bounce back to the log-in screen.

Rewards Not Redeeming: Some users reported activation 404 errors when trying to redeem rewards. This was occurring when users immediately tried to activate their reward upon collecting it, causing the server to lag behind. The app now forces the sync/retry process before showing an error.
