Donkeys in Lioness Land is based on an ongoing series of prints by artist James Green, where donkeys explore a strange, colourful and surreal land… and here they take on new heights as they stomp upon the back of a powerful lioness!
James is passionate about putting the spotlight on donkeys through his artwork, as he feels they are undervalued in society and likes to imagine them exploring and wandering.
So, make sure you follow in their hoof-steps and make the most of every adventure!
The artist
James Green
James is a full-time artist, based in Sheffield who specialises in printmaking, mainly linocut and screenprint. He loves to create bold prints, playing with colour and texture and attempting to push the limitations of his print methods.
In 2023 Sheffield Museums hosted a major retrospective of his donkey prints, at the Millennium Gallery, entitled ‘Donkey Nonsense, prints 2008 to 2023’. Outside of his personal work, James has created commissions for people like The Hepworth Wakefield, English Heritage, Sheffield Children’s Festival and Abbeydale Brewery.
