Ethel

Location

Entrance to Rotherham Leisure Complex

Ethel is inspired by Ethel Haythornthwaite – an environmental campaigner, activist and poet from Sheffield.

She was a pioneer of the countryside movement that went on to become our beloved Peak District, which was designated as the very first national park in the UK in 1951.

Artist Si Homfray has brought the power of the peaks onto the lioness, with a cropped and twisting path running through the whole design to unite it.

Si Homfray

Si Homfray is an artist, designer, adventurer and author who lives in Hathersage in the Peak District. His work is the expression of a lifetime living in Sheffield and the Peak District, his many adventures and long runs around the world.

This experience is combined with a curiosity to find new ways of presenting and sharing information with themes around wellbeing and the natural world and how our immersion in outdoor spaces works effectively to create personal growth and inner calm.

A person works on a piece of art. They are shot from side on, and are in a studio environment.
