Fe-Lion takes her name from the chemical symbol for iron, which forms the base of steel – an industry Sheffield is known and loved for.
She charts the journey of the Women of Steel – the women who were called upon during World War II to leave their occupations and work in the steel factories of Sheffield.
A beautiful tapestry combining metal components and delicate textiles, Fe-Lion is a thank you to the women who stepped up and helped to keep the country on the move.
The artist
Sara Budzik
Sara usually works in clay, creating ceramic sculptures inspired by the natural world and the creatures we share our planet with. Her work aims to connect us with the joy and wonder of nature to encourage us to protect it.
Sara is thrilled to be part of the Pride of Yorkshire, having studied for her degree at Bretton Hall College. She loves how the trail will place art directly into the heart of Yorkshire, integrating into people’s everyday lives. Sara hopes that it will be an uplifting experience for all and encourage people to seek out more art in their lives.
