Location
Shíshī, meaning “stone lion” in Chinese, are mythical guardian lions that act as fierce protectors.
They are traditionally placed outside of buildings to ward off bad energy and the males usually have a patterned ball beneath their paw, which represents unity and the world.
Artist Definitely Jenny has created Sheffield’s very own Shíshī, using themes of strength, guardianship and unity as her inspiration. With colours from the Yorkshire flag and the Yorkshire rose as the ball, this one-of-a-kind Shíshī serves to protect and offer strength to anyone under its care.

Jenny is an illustrator who has created work for murals, editorial, independent publishing and events. Interested in drawing from an early age, Jenny has always been inspired by animals – spending hours redrawing scenes from wildlife documentaries and library books.
Recently, Jenny’s work has started to be influenced by her Hong Kong heritage and culture, and is always tied together with her love of colour, quirky characters and sense of fun.
