Sheffield Steelers meet Puck the lion
The team stepped away from the ice to meet and sign a very special feline.
Off the ice and into the lion’s den! We’re so excited to announce that the Sheffield Steelers are joining Pride of Yorkshire with their very own, bespoke sculpture!
Puck the lion, created by artist Rachel Hunt, combines the team’s uniform, iconic logo and colour palette into one fierce, feline player. The sculpture took a trip to Sheffield Arena to meet the team, and received a flurry of player signatures across his back.
On meeting Puck, Robert Dowd, Captain at Sheffield Steelers, said: “We’re incredibly proud as a club to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity. The hospital is an amazing place, and we’re so lucky to have it on the doorstep. To be able to represent the club and support something so important to so many families across the region is really special.”
On creating this design, artist Rachel said: “I have loved every minute of designing and painting a new member for Sheffield Steelers. I was inspired by the vibrant team colours, and the team’s name reference to the Steel Industry in Sheffield. I also loved giving Puck a custom design pair of skates! I hope he will fit right in!’
