Def Leppard join Pride of Yorkshire
It’s officially Pride ROCK! Legendary rocks Def Leppard have left their mark on the Pride of Yorkshire trail by signing a bespoke sculpture designed in their honour.
Sheffield rock legends Def Leppard have officially joined the Pride of Yorkshire trail after signing Paw Some Sugar ahead of their homecoming show at Utilita Arena Sheffield.
Inspired by the band’s iconic hit Pour Some Sugar On Me, the specially designed lioness celebrates Def Leppard’s Sheffield roots and rock legacy.
Paw Some Sugar is one of 150 large lion and lioness sculptures on display as part of the Pride of Yorkshire trail, designed by Craig Turver and David Allen and sponsored by Legends Global.
The band said: “We are very happy to support the Pride Of Yorkshire sculpture trail, part of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity raising money for such a necessary cause. It’s an honour to be able to help raise the profile of the work of this incredible and much-needed organisation.”
A tribute to Sheffield’s rock royalty
The lioness was created by South Yorkshire artist Craig Turver, working alongside lifelong Def Leppard fan David Allen.
Craig, a graphic designer of almost 40 years, returned to painting especially for Pride of Yorkshire, creating a bold design inspired by the band’s music, Sheffield story and worldwide fanbase.
David, who has followed Def Leppard for almost 50 years, helped develop the tribute and was there to see the band sign the sculpture.
He said: “Being invited to this signing was truly a once in a lifetime occasion. It has to be my proudest fan moment with the band, which could not have been achieved without my creative partner Craig Turver.
“To meet the band, along with the charity team, for such a worthy cause was truly an honour.”
A Leppard among lionesses
Charlotte Wilson, Project Lead for Pride of Yorkshire, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Def Leppard were able to visit and sign their Pride of Yorkshire lioness while back in their home city.
“When we were thinking about iconic bands to approach for the trail, Def Leppard were right at the top of the list. A Leppard lioness was just too much fun not to do!
“We’re so grateful to the band for backing the trail and helping us celebrate Sheffield’s incredible music heritage. We hope them adding their mark to Paw Some Sugar makes it even more exciting for visitors to find, and brings an extra buzz when it’s time for the sculpture to be sold!”
